The iPad changed the way people do business in many industries, and the investment world is one that has benefited in a big way from the iPad technology. The iPad is basically in a device category by itself in that it is a mixture of a smart phone and a laptop computer.

Is the development of an iPad and investment applications important to the average investor? The answer is clearly yes. In today’s trading environment, changes occur by the second. Any application that can help you stay up to date with your investment portfolio is a huge plus. Flexibility is the name of the game today, and iPad investment applications certainly allow increased flexibility. Over the last few months, the investment community has seen how powerful the iPad can be, and there have been calls for iPad applications from the brokerages.

An increasing amount of online brokers are rushing to make iPad apps a high priority on their new product offering list. No matter what industry you are in, innovation and the ability to change is crucial, and the world of online investing is no different. Which online brokers have led the way when it comes to releasing iPad apps?

Online Brokers With iPad Apps

-E*TradeThe online brokerage that ranks #1 on the Stockbrokers.com annual online broker review, E*Trade was at the forefront of the movement to allow investors full access to their portfolio via the Mobile Pro Application for the iPad. The first version of this product had quite a few problems with crashing, but the company has since released a newer more stable version of this application.

-TD AmeritradeTD Ameritrade is one of the leaders in the online brokerage industry, and their acquisition of ThinkorSwim has really helped them become one of top investment software innovators. On February 24, TD Ameritrade announced that they were launching an iPad trading platform that is available free of charge to all clients. The platform is designed to support the multi-touch functionality and portability of the iPad. Initial reviews of this application have been very positive.

-Fidelity InvestmentsThe Fidelity iPad app has been a customer favorite for quite a while now. It allows you the ability to monitor your portfolio positions by the second, and it will update you with breaking news stories. A big perk for users of this iPad app is the ability to receive real-time market quotes. Fidelity does a nice job of utilizing the large screen of the iPad, and the app is said to be very user-friendly.

While these three have some of the highest rated iPad apps, there are many other brokers who have released apps for the iPad over the last few months. Charles Schwab has an iPad app that has some unique tools that are helpful to the average investor.  optionsXpress is another specialty online broker who has a nice iPad app. Lastly, the new MerrilEdge also provides its clients an iPad specific platform. Expect many more brokerages to come out with iPad apps as investors start to realize just how valuable the iPad is when it comes to the staying ahead in the investment world.

Charles Schwab does NOT have an iPad app. They just have a magazine available to read on the iPad. Whoever made the decision to dedicate resources to the magazine instead of the Schwab brokerage app should be fired.

Thank you for providing this information. We have reviewed our data and found you are correct! The magazine ipad compatibility does not constitute as a full account manager. This is now reflected on Schwab’s review page – http://www.stockbrokers.com/review/charlesschwab.
